Our Year-In-Review at Kwame AI


We had quite an eventful 2022 at Kwame AI with the following highlights:

  • We incorporated our startup Kwame AI (formerly SuaCode.ai) as a  C-Corp in Delaware, U.S. at the start of January 2022
  •  We launched our SuaCode mobile coding app and at the end of the year, we ran 12 cohorts and had 2.4K learners across 42 African countries, 113 countries globally, and a 4.8/5 Google Play Store rating.
  •  We launched our Kwame AI web app for Science education and at the end of the year, we had 688 users across 31 countries, and 2.8K questions asked with Kwame having an accuracy of 90%.
  • We built early prototypes of our NSMQ AI with the goal of having the AI compete live in the 2023 NSMQ competition
  • We got accepted into the Google for Startups SDG program as we address SDG 4: Quality Education
  • We were selected among the 2022 GSV Cup Elite 200 — the most innovative early-stage EdTech startups for which we attended and demoed Kwame AI at the ASU-GSV event in San Diego
  • We won the Outstanding Digital Tool In Education at Ghana’s Education Community (EduCom) Awards ceremony
  • We won the University of Cambridge’s Africa’s Future pitch competition and received £ 2,000 in funds and $7,500 in technology credits 
  • We won a £15,000 Africa Prize alumni grant from the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering 
  • We raised an angel round of funding 
  • Our paper on Kwame AI was accepted to the iTextbook workshop at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED 2022)
  • Our Co-Founder and COO, Victor Kumbol spoke about our work at the German Commission for UNESCO workshop on “Fostering Ethical AI in Africa – What Role Can German Research and Development Cooperation play?”
  • Our co-founder and CEO, George Boateng gave a research talk on our work at Google Research in Ghana and an inspirational talk at the ETH4D SDG pitch event in Zurich.
  •  George got featured in news articles by the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, Dartmouth Engineer Magazine, IBM, and Amazon for his work on Kwame AI!
